Might the tiny dinosaur (a stegosaurus) be Dinosaur Jr.

Someone please tell me I'm wrong.
I'm not quite sure who the lady above the Virgin sign is suppose to be just yet, but it is NOT Madonna. Madonna is, however repesented by the painting of the mother and child under the Virgin. So you were right that she was in there.

Were going to end up getting all of them except for 7 and then take a long time to figure those out...

I think it might be a good idea to change things up. If the majority of you agree, here is what I think we should do:

temporary close the thread, and tally a list of all the bands named so far.

Each band would have to be given the image that represents where you got the band name and a general location (Example: Seal, Poster of the circus seal, Far left side).

I have a feeling that we are going to start reposting bands if we don't do this. Also, it would help prevent people from renaming something already guessed. Like White Snake was already guessed from the large white snake on the light post, bust someone else now says viper, and unless I'm missing another snake, I beleive they are talking about the white snake.

I'd even be willing to color in all the bands that have been discovered in the image to also help prevent mistakes.

what does everyone think?

OK to make things easier I decided to divide the picture into 12 section for refencing location in the image. the 12 sections are made up from 3 rows, 4 columns. So it would look like this mapped out:

_1__2__3__4_
_5__6__7__8_
_9_10_11_12_

So it make things easier for everyone I ask that we all post as close as possible to this format:

Band name - description of the image where you got the band name; section image is located

example (and my turn for this post):

Iron Maiden - metal torture cabinet on cross walk; section 6

Found bands:
Red Hot CHili Peppers - red peppers in produce stand; section 12
Gorillaz - giant apes in skyline; sections 2, 3, & 4
Alice in Chains - Alice in Wonderland girl wrapped with chains; section 8
Radiohead - man with boombox for a head; section 7
Guns N' Roses - vases with roses and shotguns; section 9
Whitesnake - large snake coiled around light pole; section 6
Smashing Pumpkins - Gallhager-esque man crushing pumkins; section 11
Led Zeppelin - Blimp (zeppelin); section 2
Rolling Stones - tumbling boulders; section 7
Sex pistols - vibrator guns; section 10
The Pixies - flying fairies; section 1 & 5
The Doors - colorful doors; section 6
The Eagles - eagles; section 4 & 8
Matchbox 20 - "20" spelt out with matchboxes; section 11
the B-52s - large planes; section 2 & 3
The Cars - automobiles; section 7
Scissor Sisters - two pink pairs of scissors; section 11
Queen - victorian era woman with the vibrator guns; section 10
Prince - victorian era boy being held up; section section 11
fifty cent - half dollar coin; section 10
Blind Melon - Watermelon with sunglasses in produce stand; section 12
Hole - pit in road; section 7
Dead Kennedys - posters of John and Robert Kennedy on wall; section 5
Spoon - large spoon; section 8
Kiss - two girls kissing; section 6
KoRn - corn in produce stand; section 12
The Lemonhead - lemons with smiley faces in produce stand; section 12
Seal - poster of circus seal; section 5
The Police - policemen; section 7
Blur - blurry man; section 8
Twisted Sister - two contortionist women; section 7
Deep Purple - purple building; section 7
Eels - two eels on the ground; section 10
Garbage - knocked over trash and trach can; section 7
Green Day - filled in green date on calender; section 12
Black Flag - black flag; section 7
White Zombie - undead man painted white; section 5
Nine Inch Nails - nails on ground; section 11
Black Crowes - black birds on main street sign; section 8
Great White - Shark poster; section 6
White Stripes - cross walk striping; section 6, 7, & 8
U2 - U U graphitti on building; section 8
Madonna - painting of mother and child; section 5
Cowboy Junkies - Cowboy shooting up, and strung out Cowboy on lightpost; section 8
Iron Maiden - metal torture cabinet on cross walk; section 6
The Postal Service - mail carrier getting mail from the mailbox; section 5
Phish - Gold Fish bowl on the ground; section 12

debated bands:
Crowded House or Block party - over crowded party in apartment; section 8
T-Rex or Dinosaur Jr. - tiny stegosaurus; section 9
Ratpack or Ratt - rat; section 7
The Beach Boys or Butthole surfers - two surfers; section 8
Carpenters or Men at Work - men working on top of apartment; section 4
* we can figure these out as we go, since they have already been semi-established

I can't find these:
Viper
*doesn't mean they are wrong, I'm just not seeing them. Original poster can help me out, or tell me if they ended up being mistaken

Also, I went to Virgin's website, and there is actually a little more to the image then what we have. The missing section is to the left the left side of the image we have now. I'll try to work on adding this missing section to what we have so we can get all of the bands.

If you see ANY mistakes ANYWHERE in my post, let me know.

I'll agree with that, because the image focuses more on the act of the mailman getting the mail from the mailbox, then just being a mailman. Since picking up and carrying the mail is a huge part of what the USPS does, I agree that the answer is The Postal Service, so much so I'm going to add it to the found list. Anyone got a problem with that?
Eager To Please wrote: theres a Gold Fish bowl on the ground in section 12 for Phish
Duh! Sorry about that, I should have made that connection when I was going through the list. My post with the list of found has been updated to show this finding, to to remove Phish from the can't find list.

I Thought I'd also give my two cents on the debated bands

Crowded House, because the people are pressed up against the window, as if the place was too packed to move. If it were a block party, I think there would be outside, or at least have stuff like balloons or whatever to show that there was a party.

Dinosaur Jr. , because it's definitely not a T-Rex, but it is a very small, or junior sized dinosaur.

Ratt, becuase there is only a single rat, rather than a few to form a pack and because the rat pack wasn't a band, but rather a group of individual entertainment performers who were not all singers, there were actors, comedians, etc... in the "rat pack".

The Beach Boys, because even though they are definitely surfers, they are men you'd find on the beach because of their wetsuits and boards...plus I see no buttholes, or anus like items around them.

the Carpenters or Men at Work is the tough one, because you can't tell what they are doing. It appears that they are working on building a wood frame. It could go either way. Since there are no hardhats, or construction gear, I guess I'd have to lean towards the Carpenters.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I still think it's 50 Cent. Half-dollar = 50 cents. Now if it was a quarter, which also has the American Eagle on it, that might be another story.

Also, out of curiosity, does the picture represent just the rock/pop genre or can it represent other styles of music such as country and rap?

I'll have to disagree with you. Here's why:

First a lot of bands have used an American Eagle seal before and after The Ramones, though they are easily to most associated with the logo on material put out by the band.

And the fact that it was only used as a logo for the band and does not have any other actual connection to the band when all the other images are literal examples of the bands names and not whatever logo they choose to put on their t-shirts, etc...

It's a big shiney half dollar, it has to mean 50 Cent
