I'm finishing up my Religious Studies minor here, Mel. In fact, I'm taking a Religion & Ethnography class, focusing on Catholicism as part of my project. Pretty interesting class... I'm doing my 5th observation at one of the churches this Sunday and probably another one next week or before finals.

awesome stuff. What exactly does your Religion & Ethnography class cover?

I kinda lucked out that i am in the program when I am. They have some classes they only offer every couple of years. Like, right now I am taking a class on the Dead Sea Scrolls. They only offer it every couple years.

I'll be at a local church a lot during my fall semester, but that will actually be for my chinese class. I hear the teacher takes us over there a lot to have dinner with people from the chinese community.

Basically, we pick a religion and study it through observations, interviews, and interactions with the community in which we try to interpret their rituals and practices through our contacts as well as understand the concepts of the religion itself. In the end, we share what we have learned with others, in which we will be writing a narrative paper as part of our assignment. Normally, an ethnographer can study a community for more than a semester, or, if time is limited, an extensive fieldwork in which you wake up, do your fieldwork study, go to bed and repeat. Of course, as college students, we don't have such time and a semester is good enough for us.

At the moment, we are reading "In Amma's Healing Room," which will give us a good idea how to write our papers before finals.

Most of our Religious Studies classes cover Christianity (252 - New Testament, 375 - Jesus & the Gospels, 385 - The Apostle Paul), but we also have two Asian religions that are taught every other year...

I take that back. The Philosophy & Religious Studies department is going through a huge change in curriculum. They are trying to separate the two and will be scrapping the first two Religious Studies classes due to the fact that in a way they teach almost the same thing but in different contexts.

I'm getting a nice psych-heavy semester. Research design method and writing, forensic psychology, Historical Trends in psych, and my favorite, an online ethics course. I'll probably add social psych and/or some theater classes then if I end up double-majoring.
Anyone else take the research design class? I'm not overly sure what to expect.

Right now i'm taking two classes:

- Atomic Spectroscopy
- Analytical Separations

And they both rock!

I'm in a master degree in analytical chemistry, by the way...

I second that. Last chemistry class I took was in highschool. I was the clumsy one in my group, but no one else wanted to carry out the experiments. I think they just wanted to laugh at me when I dropped hot things and tried to catch them :?
