Just back from Aquapalooza EC Show!

Post by Raptorbite » Sun Jul 20, 2008 2:12 am

Ok...
I just got back from the Everclear/Soul Asylum/Cracker show down at lake of the Ozarks, Missouri.

I have to say, single handedly the best day of my life.... Well, its up there alright..
The concert itself was very unique, as all the people pretty much had to be on a boat or swimming/floating in the water by the stage. The event gave away free intertubes for people, which myself and about 400 other people floated and watched the show.

I actually got to meet art face to face before the show as he was walking back to the stage after doing a local radio interview.. I got the nerve to go right up to him and tap him on his shoulder and ask him to sign my world of noise Vegas Years CD covers... He did, and not only that, he stood there and talked to me alone for like 10 minutes. I got my picture taken with him and we discussed Jesus was a Democrat and the new Colorfinger collection coming out soon... It was amazing.

Also after the show, I met the whole band and had a drum head signed by the entire band and a drum stick signed by just Brett. It was funny because Brett asked me if my set was a 5 or 7 piece, and I told him its a 12 piece set, and he looked up at me and responded, "you spoiled little shit" and laughed and told me to take good care of it....

Art said JWAD isn't going be done by august like he wanted. The touring and everything have only allowed them to to record vocal tracks and some other stuff, but he said that after they get some time off touring, they will go in and finish it. Also the colorfinger deal is coming smoothly, he said the master tracks are now being worked into the collection. I guess that means he is just arranging everything....

The set list was...

Soundcheck
-DownTime
-Pink Cadillac
-Connection
-Loser Makes Good
___________________
-Everything to everyone
-Father of mine
-Heroin Girl
-Boys are back in town
-You make me feel like a whore
-Song from an American movie PT 1.
-Brown Eyed Girl
-Girl with the far away Eyes
-Portland Rain
-Wonderful
-White men in Black Suites
-Santa Monica
-Volvo Driving soccer mom
_______________________
Encore
-So much for the afterglow
-I will buy You a new life

The energy of the show was off the charts.... Everything was jumping and alive, the band sounded better than ever and it was very, very loud... At one point, someone accidentally threw a football onto the stage next to Sam, and he stopped playing and picked it up and instead of throwing it back, him and Davy played catch for like 2 minutes until art told them to stop fucking around, and they threw it back into the water.. Also, a hot chick climbed onto the stage and hugged art in the middle of so much for the afterglow, and he stopped playing and was like... whoa, whoa... you cant do that... are you drunk... and he was like, if you think you can just get away with that, your wrong, he said she should flash everybody.... and she did. She took her top off and threw it at Brett and jumped back into the water... It was really funny!

And some pics..

Two things:

1. You can't rock out in sandals Art.
2. Where the fuck is the picture of the flashing?

Wow what an awesome event that looked/sounded like. I'm glad you had
such a good time. Now...if Art and the boys could do some dates in
the south....specifically SC/NC/GA maybe?

What order did the band's play in? This line up I'm going to catch in October; and I'm really no Cracker fan; and only so-so on the Soul Asylum. Actually, the Soul Asylum I like aren't even the hits.

Also why is the band doing so many songs in these soundchecks and then sticking with the same set list on the shows. They did Loser Makes Good & Connection at soundcheck at the Hershey shows; and then didn't play them. Have they turned up at any of the other recent shows?

note to art: the only man who should be seen wear sandals is Jesus. they are just a bad fashion choice for ALL men...you're not five, you a grown man. wear docksiders, for god's sake.

(sorry...i just have a thing against seeing men in sandals.)

I wanted to go to this so bad and reading this is making me even more pissed I missed it. I was stuck in Joplin for work. Although the show in Kansas City at the Power and Light District was pretty kick ass!!
