Black is The New Black B-Sides

Post by bravedisease » Tue Apr 03, 2018 11:45 am

Were there any b-sides or outtakes from Black Is The New Black?

Unlike Invisible Stars, there are apparently outtakes from the BITNB sessions including one instrumental that Art and Freddy mentioned on several occasions.

Yeah, I tried to find the link, but it was a twitter Q&A and I'm not so great with twitter searching. I referenced it during the Reddit AMA though:

Me: "You mentioned in the Twitter Q&A that you almost re-recorded The Color Pit for the new album. What made you decide to go against this in the end? I think it's one of the best songs you've written and would have loved to hear a modern version of it. Any chance we might get a re-recording of it as a b-side?"

Art:"Maybe a bside...it just didn't sound great with the band."

I would be curious to know what "other" stuff they messed around with from the vault on the past couple albums.

The Color Pit?!? Holy shit. That's way back. Would love to hear it. And happy Art is still willing to revisit that old stuff. When's the last time a Colorfinger song got played...?

Also FWIW I asked Art during the S&F anniversary tour if there were any plans to rerelease DITHOTBITS and he flat out said no.

I asked Art about it and he said there was a couple B-sides, I don't think he ever said a number.

Also I don't think they recorded the color pit for the record, I think they jammed it, but that's it.

I will ask again at summerland.

I had really been waiting for that. Oh well.

I pulled Freddy aside and pleaded with him to talk Art into a rock version of Otis Redding on the next album like the demo that leaked out haha. Man, The Color Pit? That would have been amazing. In the fantasy world where I get to pick a track list for an Art solo acoustic album (like Closure), The Color Pit would be on there.

iTunes has a version of Black is the New Black that includes an acoustic version of The Man That Broke His Own Heart.
