Syd Barret has died

Post by Josh Santo » Tue Jul 11, 2006 12:36 pm

Apparently he died yesterday, "passed away peacefully." For those of you who don'
t know who he is, he was THE founding member of Pink Floyd. He was 60 years old.

Yeah, i know what you mean. Ironically though, today was also the day the "Pulse" was released on DVD for the first time. That's gotta be a little rough on the guys who used to be Pink Floyd.

It's easy to highlight Syd's departure as the moment Pink Floyd turned shit, but, to be honest, it probably happened long before that. Still, See Emily Play, Arnold Layne and even purposely throwaway tracks like Bike are all still ace, and Pink Floyd, for all their pretentious guitar masturbation, never recovered from the loss of Syd's wit and wholly idiosyncratic worldview.

I suspect that's not the case. With Barrett went Floyd's one redeeming feature.

he died on the 7th, my birthday. I was really sad about that. I love pink floyd, and he will greatly be missed.
